The Schoolyard

Our schoolyard is the 'sheltered' waters of the Bras d'Or Lakes of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Although called lakes, the Bras d'Ors are salt water, open to the Atlantic Ocean via two natural channels and a set of historic locks. They are subject to daily tidal changes, and support marine life such as seals, lobsters, cod - and even whales on the rare occasion!

The Bras d'Or Lakes are approximately 50 km wide by 100 km long and cover over 1100 square km of protected inlets coves and bays. A gunkholer's paradise!
